John F. Currier, age 94, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at The Glenn Arbor Hospice. He was born January 29, 1924 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Augustus B. and Irene M. (Allen) Currier. John served in the U.S. Navy during both WWII and the Korean War. He worked at Eaton Manufacturing for 13 years and retired from the Kellogg Company in 1989, after 28 years of service. John was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the Kellogg 25 Year Club. He worked Bingo at St. Jerome’s for several years and met his wife, Jeanne M. (Boucher) playing Bingo at St. Joseph. John loved to tell everyone “he won his wife playing bingo”. They were married on September 16, 1950 in Battle Creek. John and Jeanne physically built the home they lived in together for those 62 years. Jeanne preceded him in death on May 23, 2012. He was also preceded by two brothers: Joseph and Ross Currier; three sisters: Mary Louise Sneed, Rita Kovacic and Therese Munie. John is survived by his daughter: Shirley (Gary) Cummins of Battle Creek; son: Edward J. Currier of Battle Creek; nine grandchildren: Terra (Derek) King, Justin Tindol, Gary Cummins Jr., Chelsea Cummins, Charly (Taylor) Weidner, Cody Currier, Clarissa Currier, Greg (Lori) Tuttle and Colton (Tiffany) Durkee; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Alys Currier IHM and Ann Currier IHM both of Monroe; one brother: Richard Currier of Grand Ledge. John loved his grandchildren and attended all their sporting events, even helping his wife Jeanne make chicken noodle soup for their granddaughter’s volleyball games. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with The Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at St. Jerome Catholic Church. Graveside services with military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018 at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
