Joan Kain, Age 78, Of Battle Creek, Joan came into this world August 18, 1937 in Trinidad, Colorado the first born child to young parents, Rose and Tom Barros, a short time later they moved to Denver, Colorado where Joan was raised. From very humble beginnings early in life Joan discovered the rewards of working hard and being independent, after high school she pursued a career in Restaurant Management.  In 1967 she moved to Battle Creek, Michigan with her family to operate a Village Inn Franchise and in 1982 she established her own restaurant “The Pancake House”. A successful anchor business in Battle Creek for over 49 years. Over the years she owned and invested in various other businesses in the local area. An entrepreneur at heart Joan was a person who cared deeply about her community and the people she served. An avid sports fan and lover of life a beautiful human being, who through good times and bad supported, encouraged and inspired family, friends and strangers alike. She touched the lives of so many throughout her lifetime. She passed peacefully on January 10, 2016, surrounded by her family. She is loved and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Rose Barros; brothers, Johnny Barros, Bobby Barros and Jimmy Chavez; stepfather, Alfonso Jimenez; son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Judy Anderson and a grandson, Nick Anderson. She is survived by her sons, Scott (Kevie) Anderson, Tom (Sherrie) Anderson and Newt Callahan (Jennifer Wilkerson); grandchildren, Morgan Anderson, Eric Anderson, Audrey Anderson, Danielle Killian, Cody Callahan, Makenzie Callahan, Douglas Trine, Zachary Trine, Sean Anderson, Kyle Anderson, Corey Brown, Tyler Stratz, Miranda Wilkerson, Marissa Wilkerson and Lucas Wilkerson; great grandchildren, Ruben Martinez, Dominic Tuminello, Gabby Killian, Ethan Anderson, Eli Anderson, Hadlie Trine, Haisley Trine, Meredith Trine and Bryleigh Sams; sisters, Anita Walker and Shirley Chavez; brother, Dan (Marie) Jimenez and her best friend of many years, Janet Dillon. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of Joan’s life will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2016, at The Pancake House, 185 Capital Ave S.W., Battle Creek, MI with a presentation by Joan’s son Pastor Scott Anderson at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions on behalf of Joan Kain may be made to Southern Care Hospice Services, 1911 W.
