Joan Gibson (Banaszak), age 80, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, April 15, 2016. She was born June 10, 1935 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of John Joseph and Mary Agnes (Joswiak) Banaszak. Joan attended Battle Creek Public Schools. She worked at Kellogg’s and after having children, spent her time as a loving stay at home mom. Joan also volunteered at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church where she was a long time member. She was a wonderful cook whose other hobbies included antiquing and traveling, especially to Watersmeet in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great granddaughter, Elle. On June 12, 1954 she was married to Richard W. Gibson, who survives. Also surviving are her daughters: Catherine Sue Hartgerink (John) and Marsha Kaye Wolf (Harold); sister: Pat Adamson; and several grandchildren and great granddaughter. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Edward, Walter, and John Banaszak; and four sisters: Irene Girten, Stephany Miller, Marion Gibson and Betty Lou Callaway. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 6:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2016, at St. Jerome Catholic Church.
