Mrs. Jeanne S. Zielke, age 90, of Battle Creek, passed peacefully Sunday, June 5, 2016 at The Reflections Senior Community in Battle Creek Lakeview.
Jeanne was born on January 15, 1926 in Hancock, Michigan to Elmer and Emma (Drouin) Sicotte. Jeanne enjoyed school and graduated with high honors from Hancock High School in 1943 excelling in math and english. As a young woman, she was a fine solo singer for local Copper Country radio shows and presentations. As a child of the Great Depression, prohibition, and World War Two, she experienced lean times and learned the value of wasting nothing and hard work. She lived those values throughout her long life. Despite those early challenging days, she enjoyed many gatherings with family and friends swimming in Lake Superior, cooking local foods like pasties and roasted squab and ice skating.
Jeanne then moved to Battle Creek, Michigan in the early 1950‘s and worked at Percy Jones Hospital where she met her life partner Roland Zielke (deceased 2003). On May 28, 1955, Jeanne and Roland married and began their life together working, building their home and raising four beautiful children. Jeanne continued working and learned land contract, abstracting and title transactions and excelled in that role for local attorneys and companies for many years before she retired. As parents, Jeanne and Roland instilled a strong work ethic and stressed the need to graduate from college which all of their four children did. As devoted mother and wife, Jeanne placed high priority on her catholic faith, staying active with her home and the comfort of her family always creating wonderful memories through holiday meals and fun vacations. Jeanne loved to cook and be outside. She took great pride in making her yard and gardens productive and beautiful. She enjoyed those activities far after she retired.
Her survivors are a daughter, Paula Malcolm, of Round Rock, Texas, and sons Robert Craig of Newport Beach, California, Patrick (Emily Conover) Craig of Beltsville, Maryland, John (Joanne) Zielke of Richland, Michigan and her sister Francis Dunnebacke (husband Phil) in Lansing, Michigan.
