Jean Giacchina

Died Monday, November 19, 2018, at Glenn Arbor Hospice. Jean was born on October 9, 1925, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Ottorino and Mary (DePalma) DiLoreto. Jean graduated high school in Detoit. She moved to the Battle Creek area 4 years ago to be near her family. She was united in marriage to Leo Giacchina on June 19, 1948, he preceded her in death on July 24, 2003. She was a member of St. Jude Roman Catholic Church in Detroit and then St. Philip Roman Catholic Church in Battle Creek. Jean enjoyed being with her family, she loved dogs and gave to The Leader Dogs for the Blind. Surviving are her daughters, Mary Gallaway of Battle Creek and Jacqueline Shugert of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Meghan (Rolland) Taft of Battle Creek; great grandchildren, Raleigh and Camryn Taft; brothers, Lawrence DiLoreto of Detroit and Adolph “Sonny” (JoAnn) DiLoreto of South Haven; a sister-in-law, Jennie Cugliari of Detroit. She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Ida DiLoreto. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
