Janet Kay (Blue) Osburn, 69, died on March 20, 2020 at Grossmont Hospital in San Diego, California. She succumbed to complications from injuries incurred when her motorcycle was hit by a car while stopped in traffic near her home in Santee, California on February 26, 2020.
Janet is survived by her mother, Betty Rose Robins of Battle Creek, as well as David Osburn of Sherwood, Michigan, half-sister Elizabeth Robins of McKinney, Texas and step-brother Ray Robins of Holt, Michigan. Her best friend, Jennifer Smiley, was able to be with her when she passed, and has provided invaluable support and comfort to Janet and her family during this difficult time.
Janet was born on March 2, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri, coming to Battle Creek as a small child when she moved here with her mother and brother. She attended schools in Battle Creek and Lakeview High School, before studying in California to become a licensed Massage Therapist. Janet was always a free spirit, who changed her name to “Blue” in her late teens. She worked at several clinics in the San Diego area, before opening her own therapy business. She had retired several years ago to enjoy her amazing tropical garden and caring for her beloved cat, Tiger Lily.
Jennifer Smiley has provided this beautiful tribute to the friend she always knew as Blue: Blue was a gift to every person that she touched throughout her life. She was an individual who always left anyplace she came into contact with better than before. Everywhere she lived she created a garden that even the garden fairies would be jealous of. She was filled with love, kindness, and a spirit of adventure. She fit more experiences into one lifetime then others could in many. Throughout her years she traveled all over the United States and Europe, finally settling in San Diego. She missed England and especially loved her time there. Most of all she was loved, admired, and respected by so many. We will all have a piece of our hearts missing without her, and are so thankful to have been blessed with her in our lives.
