James A. “Jim” Rogers, Age 74, Of Battle Creek, Died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at his residence. James was born on June 12, 1939, in Battle Creek, the son of Donald and Elizabeth (Goss) Rogers. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Pennfield Schools. Jim proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine. Upon his return from the service, he worked many years at Large Auto Body running the wrecker service and later managing the body shop. He also worked for Terry’s Road Service. After many years of working for others, he ventured out and opened his own body shop. Many were sad to see him retire because he could virtually fix “anything.” Jim also had a passion for youth and sponsored many ice hockey and baseball teams. He helped to manage the teams and made sure each family had a positive experience. And most of all, he loved his family and all of his friends. In 1978 he was united in marriage to the former Deborah “Debbie” L. Lee who survives. Also surviving are sons, Andrew (Jodi) Rogers, Bryan (Tiffany) Rogers, Jimmy (Kimmy) Rogers and Jeff (Crystal) Porter-Rogers; Daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Thurston, Christine (Mike) Williams and Raynell (Mike) Rew; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Linda) Rogers and Leon (Fran) Rogers; a sister, Sandy Rogers; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul “Scott” Rogers; his parents; a sister, Mary Weist and a brother, Donald Rogers. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014, at funeral Home with Troy Deal officiating.  Memorial donations can be made to Deborah Rogers for a future scholarship fund to be named at a later date.www.henryfuneralhome.org
