Died Saturday, January 2, 2021, in Battle Creek surrounded by his family. James was born on March 1, 1934, in Battle Creek, the son of LaVern and Edna (Palmer) Davis. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. On March 16, 1986, he was united in marriage to the former Jane Martin who preceded him in death in 1998. James worked as a Bondsman, then joined the Operating Engineers Local 324 Union and worked as a crane operator for Schweitzer for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 for 50 years, a member of the PNA Club, founder of Honky Town Hunt Club in Luther, MI, contributed to the Disabled American Veterans, the F.O.P. and was a member of the Old Timers Night of Kalamazoo. He enjoyed bowling at Spring Lake Lanes, playing cards, was an avid outdoorsman, race car driver where he raced in and won several races in Kalamazoo, Hastings, Galesburg, Berlin and many others. Surviving are several nieces and nephews; a lifelong friend, Pauline Smith. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Glen, LaVern, Jr., Harry, Raymond, Rich Davis and sisters, Luann Lonchar, Marilyn Wilk, Shirley Wilk, Linda McMahon and Patty Maxwell. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and it may be viewed virtually for those not able to attend by viewing the livestream on James’s obituary page at www.henryfuneralhome.org. As James would say “Check You Later”. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to The Humane Society of South Central MI. In compliance with the current State of Michigan orders, the number of persons in the funeral home is limited to 25 and masks are required of all in attendance. www.henryfuneralhome.org
