Passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence. James was born on October 25, 1931, with his twin sister in St. James, MN, the son of George and Sophie (Westman) Guehl. He had been a lifelong resident of Battle Creek and was a 1949 graduate of Lakeview High school. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict aboard the Bonnie Homme Richard. On August 31, 1952, James was united in marriage to the former Marilyn Harvey who preceded him in death in 2013. He also graduated from Western Michigan University in 1958 with a degree in finance. James worked for General Foods for many years and later at the Federal Center until his retirement in 1994. He served on the Board of Directors of D.O.D. Credit Union and was Chairman of the DLSC United Way Campaign. He enjoyed playing golf on leagues with friends, bowling leagues with his father-in-law, Ira Harvey and tennis with his daughter. He was coach of Little League T-Ball and baseball. James enjoyed traveling for day and weekend trips and vacations with his wife. They spent Winter months in Florida for years. They both enjoyed eating out and he continued that love with his family even after her death of Alzheimer’s. He was a great caregiver to her. His favorite thing to do in the last few years was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his children, Jamie (Herbert) Tenney, Christie (Daniel) Gillett and Casey (Andrea) Guehl; grandchildren, Benjamin ( Natalie) Tenney, Molly (Brice) Tenney, Lacey (Rex) Walbrook, Jesse (Tara) Stout, Michael (Maggie) Corradini, Samuel (Emily) Corradini and Allison Guehl; 13 great grandchildren, Bailey, Avery, Bre, Kaylea, Mason, Declan, Wyatt, Vivian, Hazel, Zoey, Everly, Abbie and Alex; sisters, Georgine Trudelle, his twin, Jeanette Phillip and Kathy (Herb) Hancock. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
