James Elliott

James M. Elliott, 83, of Springfield, passed away at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence on  December 11, 2020. Jim was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on March 13, 1937 to Lillian (Knowles) and James M. Elliott. He attended Lakeview and Springfield  Schools and joined the U.S. Navy in 1955 where he served proudly on the USS Tidewater.  Jim married Patricia Danilowitz on October 10, 1959, and together they had six children. After the Navy, Jim worked for Jay’s Foods, Clark Equipment Company for 25 years and then at Midwest Metallurgical Laboratory of Marshall until he retired in 1999. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing and was on many bowling  leagues. While his boys were in school, he was very involved with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and was a Scoutmaster for many years. He also was a member of the Springfield PTA/PTSO. He was a proud Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed watching Detroit Lions and Michigan football. Jim was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Jim is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 61 years, and his children, Pat (Nancy) Elliott, Melissa (Joe) Audette, Angie (Mike) Griffin, John (Jody) Elliott, and Steve (Michele) Elliott, 16 grandchildren, Nick, Mike, Emily, Josh, Jacob, Danyelle, Michael, Anastasia, Amanda, Jessica, Zack, Bree, Jordan, Madison, Tyler and Trevor, 20 great-grandchildren, sisters Janet Raymond and Nancy Huff, and special sister-in-law Linda Opack.  Jim was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Joanie, daughter-in-law, Khristine Elliott, and sister Shirley Worthington. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to  7:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Friday, December 18, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Calhoun County Animal Shelter, 165 S. Union Street, Battle Creek, Michigan 49014.  The family will also celebrate Jim’s life with friends at a later date. In compliance with the current State of Michigan orders, the number of persons in the funeral home is limited to 25 and masks are required of all in attendance. www.henryfuneralhome.org
