Passed on at 1:00 a.m., July 4, 2021, in his home with his daughter by his side. James was born in Battle Creek, MI, at Nichols Memorial Hospital on April 3, 1931. He attended Tekonsha High School . He married Nola Mae Grotbo in 1954. She Preceded him in death in 2005 after 50 years of marriage. Jim wanted to be a soldier since he was a child. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. During his military career he was assigned to 9 military bases in the U.S., 1 Tour (3 years) in the Panama Canal Zone, 3 Tours, 1 year each in Korea and 2 Tours, 1 year each in Vietnam. He honorably retired in 1971. After military service, Jim worked for the State of Michigan, retiring after 20 years. He loved golfing and was quite good at it. Jim won many tournaments and got 6 holes in ones over the years. He also worked for 11 years at Cedar Farms Golf Course and played on leagues through 2017. In addition to his wife Nola and parents George Clark, Sr., and Chanda (Kirby) Clark, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, George Clark, Jr., and Kenneth Clark; sisters, Juanita Prater, Marda Boston and a great granddaughter, Virginia Wood. He is survived by a sister, Jo- Ellen Upston. Also surviving are his daughters, Carlene Clark of Battle Creek and Su-Ellen (Dennis) Lierz; granddaughters, Michelle (Jody) Wood and Christin Yingling (Christopher Dagucon); 5 great grandchildren, all of New Mexico and many nieces and nephews. In addition to golf, Jim enjoyed his family, reading western books, watching golf tournaments, westerns and war movies on television. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to Hospice Care of Southwest MI. www.henryfuneralhome.org
