Jalaine "Pat" Smith

Jalaine R. Smith age 72, of Battle Creek, passed away on April 3, 2017.  She was born on January 23, 1945 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Raymond and Isabelle (Strong) Keagle.  She grew up in Climax, Michigan as a child, graduating from Climax High School before moving to Battle Creek.  She was united in marriage to Larry Kruger in 1966, which ended in divorce.  Pat was employed by the VA Medical Center for eighteen years in their canteen services, then as a receptionist at the JC Penney Hair Salon for thirteen years.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, flowers, nature, bird watching,  and garage sales.  She was preceded in death by her parents; Raymond and Isabelle Keagle, former husband; Larry Kruger.  Pat enjoyed taking day trips to Shipshewana.    She is survived by her son; Dan Kruger of Portage, Michigan, daughter; Jana (Scott) Brandt of Bellevue, Michigan, sister; Janelle Pocock of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, four grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday, April 8, 2017 from noon-2:00 p.m. at the Richard A.
