Ivan Joseph Karas, of Battle Creek, age 89, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at his home. Ivan was born on March 19, 1924 in Alpena, MI the son of Edward and Clara (Krenz) Karas. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his time in the service, Ivan was employed with the U.S. Postal Service retiring after 32 years of service. He was a former member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Ivan is survived by a sister, Sister Josephine Karas, IHM and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Francis Karas, Bernice Griffin and Sister Vivian Karas, IHM. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 3, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Very Reverend Mark Vyverman officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends will continue to celebrate Ivan’s life with a time of fellowship and a luncheon at the church immediately following the internment.
