Irene Olmstead

July 23, 1926 — March 27, 2015

Irene Agnes Olmstead, age 88, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. She was born July 23, 1926 in Janesville, Wisconsin the daughter of Alois and Martha (Kreklow) Schiferl. A 1944 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Janesville in 1947, Mrs. Olmstead worked as a Registered Nurse at Community Hospital, Lakeview General, V.A. Medical Center and Fieldstone Center Hospital prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and her hobbies included crocheting afghan blankets of which she made many for family and friends, walking, playing cards and being involved in home construction with her late husband. On May 15, 1948 she was married to Dale Dan Olmstead in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, three brothers: Norbert, Charles and Ralph Schiferl, and three sisters: Ruth Hahn, Marion Hoffman and Florence Kiesling. Mrs. Olmstead is survived by her children: Jeffrey (Cathy) Olmstead, James (Sharon) Olmstead, Kathy (Steve) Harke and Patricia (Philip) Ewing; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister: Elaine (Harvey) Wagner; several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Gorlitz of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service time. Private interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
