Ina B. Verhest, Age 90, Of Battle Creek, Went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 20, 2012, at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. Ina was born on November 20, 1921, in Kalkaska, MI, the daughter of William Henry and Hannah (Loney) Carlisle. She had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Battle Creek Central. She was united in marriage to Gus F. Verhest who preceded her in death on May 4, 1996 and also preceding her in death was their son Dan A. Verhest in 1980. Ina was employed at Kellogg’s for 3 years during WWII. When her first child was born she decided to stay home to raise her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir when she was a child. She enjoyed gardening, playing card in her social group, all kinds of crafts and sewing. Surviving are daughters, Bonnie (Frank) Stam of Durand, MI, Judy (Tom) Verhest-Beckwith of Rockwall, TX, and Jeanne Verhest-Usrey of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren, Rick A. (Tami Kaye) Shemberger, Rod A. (Elizabeth) Shemberger, Doug B. Stam, Brenda L. Stam and Brian A. Verhest; great grandchildren, Danny Shemberger, Tyler Shemberger, Willie Senn, Tami Denise Sudduth, Daniel Verhest, Michaela Shemberger, Isabella Shemberger, Jerri (Floyd) Tilley, Ashley Denniston, Aubrey Denniston, Jave De La Plata and Brianna De La Plata; great great grandchildren, Major, Jakob, Leo and Kyle; daughter-in-law, Sharon Verhest. She was preceded in death by brothers, Billy, Wilbur and Woodrow Carlisle and a sister Hazel Carlisle. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Tim P. Smothers officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
