Howard C. Wofford, Age 91, Of Battle Creek, Died Monday, October 20, 2014, at the VA Medical Center. He was one of six brothers who moved to Battle Creek from Tennessee with their parents in 1934. As a teenager he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he saw duty in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Kellogg’s in 1988, where he served as a union representative. Howard was a lifetime parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He divided his retirement time between Battle Creek and Tampa, Florida. His wife of 51 years, the former Margaret Karaba preceded him in death in 1998. He is survived by daughters, Joyce A. Stoimenoff of Seattle, WA, Judy W. Bracken of Falls Church, VA , Janet M. Simington of Union City and Caroline Wofford; sons, James Wofford and Howard Wofford of Battle Creek; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, John and Russell Wofford. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m., October 23, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Msgr. William Fitzgerald officiating.
