Howard Alton Jr., 95, of Battle Creek passed away Wednesday February 1, 2012 at Heartland Health Care Center. He was born January 27, 1917 in Battle Creek to Howard O. and Bertha (McWethy) Alton. Howard served in the U.S. Army with the 31st, ORD. HM. Company, 2nd Armored Division during WWII. He married Mildred J. Losee in 1939 in LaGrange, IN; she preceded him in death on March 2, 2006. Howard was employed by United Steel and Wire Company for 43 years, retiring in 1983. He is survived by daughters-in-law, Nancy Alton, of Battle Creek, and Christine Alton, of Racine, WI; grandchildren, Steven Alton, Amy (Wendall) Ashley, Angie (Shane) Handwerg, Scott (Kristi) Alton, Terri (Rich) Jarvis, Debbie (Bill) Nelson, Dave (Sue) Alton, Tim(Jenny) Alton, and sixteen great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Thomas Howard and Joseph Ronald Alton, a sister, Doreen Jack, a great granddaughter, Madison Nicole Alton, and a great grandson, Andrew Joseph Alton. Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was a Lifetime Deacon. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. Howard was a rock hound and had made jewelry out of many of the rocks he found. He also was a woodworker and he made and repaired clocks. Family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Sunday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 am Monday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. David C. Laisum D. Min. officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church
