Helen Roscoe

February 25, 1920 — June 2, 2017

Helen J. Roscoe, 97, went home to be with her Lord on June 2, 2017. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Battle Creek.   Helen was born in Jackson, Michigan February 25, 1920 to Lawrence and Kathryn Postula, the youngest of five children.  She was a 1938 graduate of Battle Creek Central high school; being the first in her family to earn a high school diploma. Helen worked at Weston Bakery and Eaton Manufacturing during World War II. She retired after 38 years as a telephone operator for Michigan Bell.   Helen was a world traveler but also enjoyed all the pleasures Michigan has to offer, including numerous trips to the lakes, Mackinac Island, and the U.P.  She was an avid swimmer at our local Y center well into her 80s and loved to take frequent road trips, walks and hikes with her family and friends.  She loved music, especially classical and attending Post Band concerts in the park. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining her friends and family for the holidays. Helen always enjoyed her cup of tea and a sweet after each meal.  Helen had many hobbies including sewing, crocheting, and made homemade jams and jellies. She had a delightful sense of humor and was a great story teller. Helen was a very gifted artist, developing her talent later in life. After retirement, she attended many workshops to enhance her skills, featuring her paintings at local fairs. As a member of the Battle Creek Society of Artists, Helen made many wonderful friends and displayed her artwork at local businesses, Including Battle Creek Bronson hospital.  Helen will now be reunited with her parents, three brothers, and a sister, and her beloved daughter-in-law Sherry (Noteboom) Roscoe.  Surviving are her three children Charles, of Holland, Ohio; Donald (Evie), of Nashville, Michigan; and Susan Carmany of Springfield, Michigan. She was a proud grandmother to Carol & Dawn, Brandon & Amy, Stephanie & Maureen; along with six great-grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.   Helen's cremains will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek, Mich., at a private service. A memorial service for family and friends will take place at the Battle Creek Art Center located at 265 E Emmett Battle Creek, MI 49017 on Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
