Battle Creek

Helen M. McIver, age 100, of Battle Creek, passed away on March 9, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 8, 1921 in Ithaca, MI., the daughter of Arthur and Maude (Wilson) Markman. Helen came to Battle Creek at the age of 14. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1940. She was previously Employed by L.W. Robinsons, Kroger Company and Security National Bank where she had held the positions of teller and loan officer.  Service was always a big part of Helen’s life, as a young wife, she taught Sunday school, was a scout leader, and Charter member of the Westlake Presbyterian Church, who made thousands of chocolate chip cookies and fudge for bake sales etc. At 89 years of age, Helen retired as a 30 year veteran Auxiliary member of the Battle Creek Health Systems and completed nearly 10, 000 hours of service. Helen and Jerry enjoyed their summer home in South Haven, MI for over 13 years in the golden era of their marriage. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed travel groups throughout Europe and Helen would tell you her favorite places were Austria and the final trip they took to Hawaii to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Helen had a love of books and watching classic movies, which she passed on to her granddaughter. She was married to Gerald H. (Jerry) McIver, he preceded her in death on August 26, 2000. Also preceding her in death were her parents; Arthur and Maude, son; Ronald M. McIver, sisters; Nina Walters, Mary Ervin and Barbara Cready, nieces; Beverly and Susan and nephew; John . She is survived by her daughter; Sharon Beach of Battle Creek, MI brother; Roland Markman of St. Johns, MI., grandchildren; Robyn (Brian) Rozell of Wilmington, NC., Todd (Sheila) Baker of Battle Creek, MI, Myriah Shane of Chicago, IL., great grandchildren; Heather (Richard) Hebert of South Port, NC., Daniele Killian of Battle Creek, great-great grandchildren; Brayden Hebert, Hunter and Aryonna Killian. She also left behind her cousin; Joanna McCavitt of Capitola, CA., special friend; Muriel Walters of Battle Creek, and her wonderful Centrica Care Navigators (Hospice) caregivers; Danielle, Brandy, Amy and Kelsey and 4 generations of loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 14, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral services scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the funeral home, with Pastor Mike Wicks of First Presbyterian Church Officiating. Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions made to a non-profit of your choice or one of Helen’s favorite local non-profits; Centrica Care (Hospice) Navigators, The Alzheimer’s Association, and the Battle Creek Willard Library.
