Helen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, Michigan. For the last 2 1/2 years she made her home at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility, in Battle Creek, Michigan. Helen was born in Reed, PA. on August 28, 1920. She was raised in Detroit, Michigan, one of eight children. Helen came to Battle Creek in the mid 40's. Helen worked at the Post Tavern in Battle Creek, as an elevator operator for several years. She later retired from Battle Creek Public Schools where she worked at Ann J Kellogg in the cafeteria.
Helen was a loving, compassionate and a caring person. She never had a bad word to say about anyone, and always found the positive in everything. She enjoyed quilting, reading and writing letters weekly to her granddaughter, Nicole. She looked forward to Sunday dinners at her daughter’s home. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Jaeger, and the late Marshall Jaeger, and son, John (Marsha) Compton. She has 3 grand children, Nicole Jaeger of San Diego, CA, Ginger Compton, and Chrystal Compton-Fowler of Battle Creek. She has 5 great grandchildren, Cierra, Dana and Sasha Bottom, Haley and Damon Luna all of Battle Creek. She is also survived by the late Marshall Jaeger's extended family, who she dearly loved as well. She will be also greatly missed by her grand dog's Drake and Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her parents Guytano and Vera Arnone, husband, Oliver Compton, and a daughter, Veronica Ann Compton, as well as 3 sisters and 3 brothers. Visitation will be 10:30am to12:30 pm, Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Richard Henry Funeral Home, 703 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, Michigan. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
