Hazel Jackson

December 7, 1926 — February 12, 2015

Hazel Jackson, age 88 of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015.  She was born on December 7, 1926, in Houston, Ohio, daughter of Goldie and Lawrence Wehneman.  She was valedictorian of her Houston High School class of 1943 and worked for the WACO Aircraft Company during World War Two, building military aircraft.  She attended Wright Business College in Dayton, Ohio, and worked as a court reporter in Dayton before marrying Merle Jackson in October 1953. They were married for 53 years and have three children:  Jeffrey Jackson, of Raleigh NC; Joyce Jackson, of Battle Creek; and Karen Jackson (Paul Rivkin), of Baltimore MD, and two grandsons, Daniel and Jeremy Rivkin of Baltimore.  Merle Jackson preceded her in death in 2007.  Hazel Jackson was medical staff secretary at Battle Creek Community Hospital for ten years, retiring in 1988.  She served for many years as organist at Saint Peter Lutheran Church and volunteered for the American Heart Association and CROP walk as well as Charitable Union, where she made numerous Easter dresses for little girls.  She was active in Harper Creek Community Schools, serving on the PTA for many years.   She was an avid gardener, loved caring for her Scottish Terrier companions and spent many happy springs and autumns with Merle in the mountains of North Carolina.  Friends may call at the Richard A Henry Funeral Home on Monday, February 16th from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Funeral Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Saint Peter Lutheran Church with brunch and fellowship at 10:30 am.  Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Fort Custer National Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be sent in Hazel Jackson’s memory to Saint Peter Lutheran Church. www.henryfuneralhome.org
