Harry E. Lyon, 97, of Battle Creek, MI passed away October 29, 2019 at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehab Center, Springfield, MI. He was born June 14, 1922 in Kansas City, KS, the son of Harry Edwin and Justina (Knight) Lyon. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1940 serving with distinction in the US Air Force for 31 years before retiring at Fort Custer Air Force Station in 1971. Harry participated in the Berlin Airlift, Korean Conflict and served with distinction in Strategic Air Command (Maintenance Supervisor of KC-135 Squadron). He also worked several years at Battle Creek Auto Parts. Harry was a member of St. Joseph Parish since moving to Battle Creek in 1967. He loved attending the Scottish Rites in Alma MI; EAA in Oshkosh, WI and Notre Dame Football games. Harry married Irene Tyszka Lyon on Jan 22, 1944 and was married for 31 years before she passed away in 1975. He later married Bette Alcorn Lyon who passed away in 2015. He is survived by his children: Harry (Kathleen) Lyon, Jr., Richard (Wendy) Lyon, Mary (Tim) Warren and Thomas (Joan) Lyon and stepson David (Yvonne) Alcorn. He was the proud grandfather of Angela, Christopher, Andrew and Eric. Beloved great-grandfather of Caleb, Kenton, Patrick, Becket, Quinn, Mara, Julian, Iris, Benjamin, and Amelia. The family expresses their gratitude to the entire staff at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehab Center for the wonderful care they gave our father the past seven years. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 61 N. 23rd Street, Battle Creek with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the University of Notre Dame. Please direct your gift in memory of Harry E. Lyon.
