Harry Edward Johnson, Age 96, Of Battle Creek, Died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. Harry was born on June 7, 1918, in Waterloo, IN, the son of Robert L. and Mary Johnson. He was the third son of four boys. He was a graduate of Waterloo High School. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WWII with the 11 Armored Division and was assigned to Patton’s 3rd Army. He received the European Theater Ribbon with four battle stars, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He was united in marriage to the former Alice Spangler on May 19, 1941. She preceded him in death in 2006 after 65 wonderful years. He worked 3 years working on the New York Central Railroad and then to Detroit as a transportation engineer before going into the service. He and a lifelong friend started a gas station on West Michigan Avenue where he spent 3 years as an auto mechanic. He then went to work for Shouldice Sheet Metal Co., for the next 33 years. Surviving is a daughter, Deborah Lee Shafer of Battle Creek; a son, Bruce (Kari) Johnson of Battle Creek; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
