Harold Weller

Harold H. “Hal” Weller, Age 99, Of Battle Creek, Passed away May 18, 2015, at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living in Battle Creek, MI. Born in Staplehurst, NE, March 27, 1916, he was the eldest son of Henry J. Weller and Grace (Gribble) Weller. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Fran and Jack, as well as his first wife, Marjorie. He moved to Glendale, CA in 1937 and worked for Forest Lawn Memorial Park in an executive position for 17 years. During 1944 and 1945, Harold served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater, attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant in an intelligence training unit. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to his cemetery work in Glendale. He later worked at two other Southern California cemeteries in managerial positions before his retirement. In 1990, he moved with his wife Florence to Battle Creek, where he became active in the Kiwanis Club of Battle Creek. Harold provided valuable expertise to the Kiwanis owned Memorial Park Cemetery, serving on the Board of Directors and also as President. An avid reader and bridge player, he started taking piano lessons at age 92 and loved playing and listening to the many favorites of his childhood. A lifelong Presbyterian, Harold served nine terms of 3 years each as an Elder in both Glendale, CA and Glendora, CA. He was elected a commissioner to the General Assembly from Los Angeles Presbytery in 1962 when the assembly met in Denver, CO. Harold is survived by his wife of 37 years, Florence Keitel Weller, son, Steven H. Weller of Venice Beach, CA, and stepchildren, Sheldon, Susan and Seth Keitel. He also leaves behind three beloved granddaughters, one great granddaughter and one great grandson. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 26th, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at the funeral home with Bob Heine officiating.
