Grace Winslow

Grace Esther Winslow, age 79 of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012 at her home. She was born July 9, 1933 in Bedford, Michigan the daughter of George Harper and Nina Bell (Cook) Akers. Grace worked at the Kellogg Company for several years, was a member of the O.E.S. Bedford Lodge #471, Community Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Charitable Union. On July 27, 1959 she was married to Robert Jay Thomas Winslow who preceded her in death on October 13, 1993. Grace was also preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Hankinson; brother, Glenn Akers; sister, Martha Blunt and her parents. Surviving are four grandchildren: Heidi (Cory) Bennett and their children Nicholas and Conner, Dallas (Lanita) Hankinson and their children Briana and Noah, Robert (Crystal) Hankinson and their children Jacob and Anna, Amanda Hankinson and her son Zackary; one brother Carlton Akers of Battle Creek; and two sisters: Georgetta Hare of Kalamazoo and Annabell Green of Bedford. Grace was a lifetime member of Urbandale Baptist Church and enjoyed being involved in all the activities there. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, going for drives and walks and dining out with family and friends. She loved to feed and watch the birds, was a dog lover, liked to garden and watch the Food Network and QVC. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Anderson officiating with interment to follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Urbandale Baptist Church.
