Gilbert D. Palmiter, age 86, of Lake Placid, Florida and formerly of Bedford, Michigan died Sunday, January 5, 2014. He was born July 7, 1927 in Bedford the son of Clifford and Katherine Gertrude (Douglas) Palmiter. Mr. Palmiter was active in the Boy Scouts of America achieving Eagle Scout and attended Michigan State College (M.S.U.) studying Engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later owned and operated the Bedford Hotel Garage in Bedford. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Clark Equipment Company for many years as an Engineer. He loved and raced corvettes for years and his hobby, mostly later in life, was “buying and selling automobiles”. He is survived by his companion, Vicky Braden; two sons: Carl Palmiter and his wife Pamela of Myrtle Beach, SC and Alan Palmiter of Battle Creek, MI; five grandchildren: Lindy Palmiter Drudge, Alex Michael Palmiter, Cameron Bennett, Nicholas Bennett and Aleaha Parrish-Estep; two great-grandchildren: Drake and Olivia Drudge; and sister, Leolyn Aileen (Art) Gerber of Bedford, MI. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Graveside services with military honors will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
