Gerald Rutherford

Gerald “Jerry” Patrick Rutherford, age 61, of Battle Creek, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on December 1, 1959, in Saginaw, Michigan the son of Gerald and Janet (Calhoun) Rutherford. He had been a lifelong resident of the Battle Creek area, graduating from St. Phillip High School in 1977. He attended Kellogg Community College receiving his Associates degree in Business Administration. On October 17, 1981, he was united in marriage to Jill Mathias, who preceded him in death. Jerry was employed at the Kellogg Company for 36 years as a Food Developer until he retired in 2015. He was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, extensive travel, sports, spending time with friends, and being with his family. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren and making everyone laugh. He will be remembered as a fun-loving and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Surviving are his children, Kaylee (Greg) Wilkinson and Zachary (Karli) Rutherford; brothers, James (Lisa) Rutherford, Steve Rutherford, and John Rutherford; sister Christine Scherry; Grandchildren, Ayden and Lexi Rutherford and Owen Wilkinson, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church with Father Christopher Ankley officiating.
