George Ernest Miller (the ‘GEM’), age 75, went to the loving arms of the Lord Friday, May 10, 2013, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born May 30, 1937 in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High school in 1955.
He was employed as a sales representative for Statler Ready Mixed Concrete Company for 32 years and was a member of the Battle Creek Homebuilders Association. George also ran Scotch Doubles at Nottke’s Bowl for 12 years.
George was preceded in death by his parents Woodrow ‘Woody’ Pierce and Lillian Keller. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandra ‘Sam’ (Hamilton) Miller; daughter Shelly (Miller) Thebert and son-in-law Dr. Michael Thebert of Rockford; granddaughter Amanda Thebert; and sister Debera (Pierce) Adams and brother-in-law Wesley Adams of Rockford.
George enjoyed traveling, dancing, golf, single malt Scotch tastings with his friends, attending car shows, and driving his antique Corvette. His additional love and avocation was building custom-made homes.
Per George’s request, cremation has taken place. He desired a “par-tay” (as he said) to celebrate his life. Family, friends, and others who knew George are invited to the celebration on Saturday, June 1st at the Kellogg Federal Employees Credit Union located at 41 Second Street from 2-5 p.m. in Battle Creek. At 3 p.m. George’s niece, Rev. Beth Anne (Hamilton) Crego, will officiate at a brief memorial service.
