George Coston

George W. Coston, Age 82, Of Battle Creek, Died Friday, April 13, 2012, at his residence. George was born on March 16, 1930, in Battle Creek, the son of Collins C. and Virgie (Tudor) Coston. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Battle Creek Central High School where he placed second in the state in wrestling. On May 7, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former G. Joan Proudfit who survives. George was employed at Grand Trunk Railroad for 43 years as a conductor retiring on November 19, 1993. He was a member of the UTU (United Transport Union). He enjoyed fishing trips, hunting, auctions, spending time with his retiree and auction friends, playing cards and feeding birds and wildlife. He took great pride and enjoyment in keeping his property well maintained. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time at home with his family, his dog “Harley” and his three cats. Surviving are daughters, Connie Mixon, Kathy (Ray) Douglas and Julie (Rich)Truckey; grandchildren, Jennifer Williams-Bowles, Stacy (Drew) Schweitzer, Kirsten(Scott) Waltrip, Cory Girdley and Allison Truckey; great grandchildren, Ryland Bowles, Liam Waltrip, Rowan and Jack Schweitzer. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Robert Mixon. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Pastor James Codde officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.
