Gale L. Mason

Gale L. Mason, age 79, of Battle Creek, passed away in Kalamazoo at Rose Arbor Hospice on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Gale was born on June 24, 1944 in Battle Creek, MI the daughter of John and Lea (Poston) Rook.

Gale attended Battle Creek Central High School and was a member of the 1962 graduating class. In 1962, she married Jim Misner and had two children, Allison and Bradley Misner. After a divorce in 1978, Gale married Darwin F. Mason in 1979 and became mother to Michelle and Marcy (Mason).

Throughout her life, Gale was active in many interests, she enjoyed bowling, making floral arrangements, and was owner of a Lakeview flower shop in the early 1980s.  She enjoyed visiting with friends, sharing her opinion, and talking about her memories and the history of Battle Creek. Above all, her greatest passion was being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was active in Church at both St. Peter and St. Mark Lutheran Churches.  She participated and volunteered at the food bank and soup kitchen. Lastly, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Surviving are her son, Bradley (Honorine) Misner of Danville, CA and Battle Creek, MI, daughters Allison (Doug) Jones of Battle Creek, Michelle (Jim) Smith of Dowagiac, and Marcy (Andy) Shinrock of St. Joseph, 8 grandchildren, Alan (Mae) Jones, Matthew (Matthew Stark) Jones, David (Lauren Hawkins) Jones,  Mason, Olivia, and Griffin Shinrock, Darcy (Jacob) Soule, and Madeleine Misner, 4 great-grandchildren Ellorie and Memphis Soule and Aleese and Scotlynne Jones and sisters Jan McKay and Polly Sanchez, and her great friends Barbara Remaley and Ann Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her husband Darwin F. Mason, her parents, a grandchild Jeffery Jones, and good friend Kathleen M. Barry.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28^th from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, December 29, 2023, at St. Peter Lutheran Church located at 1079 Riverside Drive, Battle Creek, MI. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
