After a valiant six-year battle against lymphoma, Frederick Pierce died March 1, 2012. He was born on March 12, 1925 in Grand Rapids, MI to Frederick and Helen (Gibson) Cole. Later his parents divorced and Fred’s mother married Earl Pierce who adopted Fred. After graduation from Battle Creek Central High School, Fred was able to attend a year at Indiana Tech’s pre-aviation program. He was then drafted and served with the 28th Infantry Division in the European Theater. After being discharged at the end of the war, he went to work for Consumers Energy (Power), retiring as a Substation Laboratory Supervisor in 1987.
IN 1947 Fred married Lois Burgett with whom they had two sons and a daughter. Lois died at age thirty leaving behind those three children, Steve (Judy Friese), Susanne (Ron Cady), and Stanley (Marianne Van Lieu). In 1961 Fred married Alice Palmer with whom he had two sons, Matthew and Grady (Stacy Petch). Fred is survived by his wife, seven grandchildren, and a great grandson, Daniel Hunter Pierce. His parents preceded him in death. Following his wishes, cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held at a later date
