Evelyn “Ev” C. McHale, Age 85, Of Battle Creek, Known by her friends as “Lovely Ev” Ev died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Evergreen Senior Care. Evelyn was born on February 13, 1928, in Cincinnati, OH, the daughter of Aloyisious and Alma (Richter) Ranz. She was a graduate of Regina High School, a catholic school for girls in Cincinnati. On January 8, 1949, she was united in marriage to Thomas L. McHale at St. Agnes Church in Cincinnati. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2013. Ev retired from Willard Library in 1994. Previously she was employed as a receptionist for Dr. L. Harold Caviness , a secretary at Horizon House, a group home for girls in Calhoun County and King Records in Cincinnati. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, past president of St. Jerome Women’s League, member of the former St. Jerome School Board and founding member of the Battle Creek Irish-American Club. Known for her tremendous sense of humor, Ev also loved to read, collect figurines, stuffed animals and loved being with her grandchildren. Surviving are children, Thomas (Joye) McHale, Tim McHale, Mike (Terri) McHale and Jim (Sue) McHale; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Al Ranz, Jr., and a sister. Aleen Ranz. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Very Rev. Mark J. Vyverman, V.F., officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
