Ethel Mae Sanders, 84 of Battle Creek MI, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday October 14th.

She was born in Greensburg, Louisiana on March 5th, 1936 to the late Alonzo and Zellee Harrell. Ethel was a kindhearted, loving person, who loved children and teaching. She received her master's in education from Michigan State University. Ethel began her career as an educator in 1961 in elementary education in Muskegon MI. She later settled in Battle Creek MI, where she taught second grade at North Pennfield Elementary School until retirement in 1993. Ethel loved the Lord and served faithfully as a member of Upton Avenue Original Church of God. She enjoyed time with her family and close friends, loved to travel, sing, and spend time with her grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in departure by her eldest sister, Helen Louise Green and brother Louis “Bernard” Harrell. She is survived by her husband Charles “Chuck” Roberts of Battle Creek, MI, sister Shirley (James) Anderson of Cerritos California. Beloved Sons, Dana (Debbie) Sanders of Seattle Washington, Joseph Sanders of Roswell Georgia, and Curtis Sylvester Harris II of Tampa Florida. Ethel leaves to cherish her beloved grandchildren, Martila Mae Sanders of Battle Creek MI, William Dana Sanders of Portage MI, Jessica Elon Sanders of Sandy Springs Georgia, Nia (Bernard) Allise Granville of Athens Georgia, Joshua Alonzo Sanders of Kennesaw Georgia, Curtis Harris III of Battle Creek MI, Chase Jeremiah Harris and Cameron Monroe Harris of Tampa Florida. Great Grand children, Abraham William Sanders and Aurora Nicole Sanders of Portage MI. Ethel also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. In accordance with Ethel’s wishes, no services will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ethel’s name may be made to Upton Ave. Original Church of God, Kingdom Builders Worldwide (Mary Broadnax Banquet fund), Glen Arbor Hospice Residence of Battle Creek, or a charitable organization of your choice.
