Battle Creek

Katie (Erin Kate) Ferguson of Battle Creek passed away on January 29,2022, at home surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 86 years old. She will join all of her siblings: Betty, Amy, Frances, Sue, Clayton and Gene in Heaven. She will also reunite with her parents, Jesse and Frankie Barger and her first husband Al Davidson.

Katie was born on December 18,1935 in Dayton, Tennessee. She moved to Battle Creek, Michigan when she was 14. She was a proud graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Katie married Al Davidson in 1956 and had two children, Amy and Randy.  She worked a number of years at Eaton Corp. and then at Hudson’s (Macy’s) until her retirement.  Katie leaves behind her beloved husband of 40 years, Jerry Ferguson. She is also survived by her children: Amy (Sid) Kalmans and Randy (Denise) Davidson, grandchildren: Kyle (Alli) Davidson, Kaitlin Davidson and Annie, Austin and Katie Kalmans along with great granddaughter: Emma Kate Davidson. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, several stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She cherished her sister-in-law, Cheri Ferguson and her long-time friend, Sara Simmons. Katie was proud of the five women in her family that were named after her, to carry on her legacy.  A positive woman of faith, grace and beauty, Katie was kind, thoughtful and always found the bright side of life regardless of challenges or misfortune. She loved designing, crafting and gifting quilts. Most of her loved ones have one or more of her beautiful quilts. She also loved shopping, fountain cokes, Bingo, ice cream, winters in Florida, a glass of wine at 5 o’clock, dancing, loose slot machines and her dogs Charlie and Louie!  At Katie’s request there will be no memorial service. She was appreciative to all who called and visited during her illness.  If you wish to donate in her memory, please consider: SAFE Place, P.O. Box 199, Battle Creek, MI 49016 or Southwest Michigan Hospice/Centrica Care, 7100 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. May we all live life with her courage, dignity and grace!
