Emmajane Nunn

EmmaJane Nunn, age 91 of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Evergreen Manor in Battle Creek. She was born August 15, 1920 in North Muskegon, Michigan the daughter of Floyd and Cynthia Lucia (Husted) Gwatkin. She married former Harper Creek Schools superintendent Howard G. Nunn in 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1965. Emma was a graduate of North Muskegon High School and attended North Muskegon Junior College. She was a WWII veteran working as a metal smith on aircraft in the Navy and was a member of American Legion Post 298 in Battle Creek. A homemaker for her children, she also managed several apartment complexes in Battle Creek from 1971 until her retirement. Over the years she enjoyed bowling, bingo, bridge, golf and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Anne Hayes and Henrietta Gosselin, her brother John Gwatkin and her son Stephen. Surviving are her children: Nancy (Mark) Watson of Jackson, Michael (Cindy) Nunn of Battle Creek, Ellen (Jim) Cruickshank of Harrisonburg, Virginia and David Nunn of Greenville; eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Graveside services with full military honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2012 at Fort Custer National Cemetery. A memorial service to celebrate the life of EmmaJane will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28th at American Legion Post #298, 228 North 20th Street, Battle Creek followed by a visitation and luncheon provided by the Women's Auxillary. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Women's Auxillary of American Legion Post #298.
