Ella Messenger

Ella Lucille Messenger, 83, of Battle Creek passed away Thursday morning, February 24, 2022 at her home surrounded by her husband, daughters and granddaughters.  She was born on October 31, 1938, the first child and daughter of Audrey Mae (Myers) and William P. Blood.

Over her employment years, Ella was employed by Rolling Hills Mobile Home Park where she served as the park manager, Sam and Margie's Grocery, and Meijers.  She was a member of the Parent-Teacher Association of Brownlee Park Elementary School where she served as the President.

Ella is survived by her husband Benjamin Clayton Messenger Sr. of whom she was happily married to for 65 years, her daughters Brenda Messenger, Susie and (Rob) Piper, son Benjamin Messenger Jr., son-in-law Bill Peugh Sr. six grandchildren William (Missy) Peugh, Charie (Jeorge Pacheco) Peugh, Tyler (Jessica) Piper, Halley (Jason) Sturma, Alex (Tarin) Messenger, Maggey Davis, and great grandchildren, Blake, Gabriela, Piper, Clayton, Addison and Rowyn; Siblings Laura Erskin and Robert Blood.  She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Tina Peugh, brother William Blood Jr., sister Lorene Deskins, grandson Benjamin Messenger III, great granddaughter Aamber Peugh, and her loyal pet Caesar.

Ella loved to dance, ride a motorcycle, garden, fish, solve jigsaw puzzles, bake and cook for her family, and crochet.  Ella loved being a wife, a grandmother, a great grandmother, telling stories about her family, and cheering on her children, grandchildren, the Michigan State Spartans and Detroit Tigers.  She was selfless, always putting the needs, wants and desires of others before herself. She was a once in a lifetime kind of woman.

Visitation is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 703 Capital Avenue SW, Battle Creek, MI. with the Celebration of Life to follow at 2:00 p.m.
