Elaine Smith

Elaine Mildred Smith (Horr) 79, of Galesburg, Michigan, passed away April 29th, 2022 peacefully at home.

Elaine was born in Defiance, OH to Harold and LaVerne Horr on June 25th, 1942. At a young age the family moved to Battle Creek, MI where she grew up and attended Battle Creek Central High School and graduated in 1960.  Elaine lived a long and fulfilling life.  She attended Wright Beauty Academy and went into entrepreneurship, starting her own hair salon which she ran until she started a family in 1973.  Later in life she worked the rest of her career of 28 years for the United States Post Office retiring in 2005.

Elaine is survived by her husband Douglas of Galesburg.  She is also survived by her children Jennifer Downing (Kevin) and Jeff Smith (Melinda), 6 grand children (Evan, William, Cole, Benjamin, Adam, and Evelyn), sister Helene and several nieces and nephews. She had the honor to raise two of her nieces, Diane and Sherri.   She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Carlene.

Elaine was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who would do anything for her family.  She was the life of the party, loved to dance, go bird watching, enjoyed traveling and loved to help others.  She will be dearly missed by everyone who had the chance to know her.

Funeral services will be held at the Galesburg Congregational Church on May 14th at 11am with Reverend Whitney Brown.  Visitation service will be held prior to the funeral. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan G.
