Edward James Gustke, known as “Jimmy” or “Ed” to many of his friends and coworkers, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. He was 78 years old. Ed, a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, lived his entire life in Battle Creek where he met his wife, Cynthia. The two of them were married over 56 years and built a lifetime of memories together. Ed is survived by his wife, their only son, Todd (Jessica) and his two grandchildren, Benjamin and Nolan, whom he loved profoundly. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Sweet, and her son Edward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward L. and Ann, and his sister, Tonya Grabowski. Ed was a member of St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Ed genuinely loved spending time with friends and family. He will be remembered for sharing his many stories and having a good laugh with the people he cared for. Ed was proud to work over 35 years at Post Consumer Brands, in Battle Creek, serving in both supervisory and production capacities before retiring. During his 23 years of retirement, Ed selflessly refined his drawing, fishing, gardening, and handyman skills, all of which were designed to be shared with others. Memorial contributions in Ed’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
