Edsel S. Britton, 85, of Aurora, Illinois and formerly of Battle Creek, died Friday July 19, 2013. He was born May 16, 1928 in Emporium, Pennsylvania the son of Frank C. and Emma C. (Hartman) Britton.
Edsel was a 1945 graduate of Emporium High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953 during the Korean War. He was a member of the Battle Creek Friends Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, flower gardening, tending to his lawn and woodworking. Prior to his retirement in 1986, Edsel had worked as a Lineman and Serviceman for Consumers Power Company since 1954. On July 27, 1950 he was married to the former Thelma M. Ranger in Emporium, Pennsylvania who preceded him in death on August 15, 1994.
Surviving are two sons: Phil Britton of Naperville, IL and Steve Britton of Montrose, MI; and two grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Aletha Howlett.
The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday July 26, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Morris Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Family Centered Hospice, Addison, IL
