Edmund A. Stanton Jr.

Edmund Astley Stanton Jr. passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, surrounded by his children.  Ed was born on December 28, 1935, in Battle Creek, Michigan to Edmund Sr. and Dorothy (Terrell) Stanton, the oldest of two children.  He was a 1954 graduate of Lakeview High School. Ed met his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Jo (Prior) Stanton, in 1951 on a party line phone and they were married on May 22, 1954. He built his home in Lakeview, and they lived there 67 years. Ed loved sports, especially coaching little league baseball and was an avid golfer and modeler. He followed MSU football, the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers.  A carpenter by trade, Ed worked for the Carpenters Union until 1984 when he co-founded Stanton Interiors where he worked until his retirement in 1990.  Ed and Mary Jo bought a condo in Tucson, Arizona in the late 1980’s and wintered there for 17 years.  He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his daughter, Cindy (Mike) Cartwright; two sons: Ed (Sue) Stanton and Scott (Karen) Stanton; ten grandchildren: Mike, Ben, Katie, Mary Jo, Eddie, David, Pammy, Jon, Jessie and Zach, twenty great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.   He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years Mary Jo Stanton, daughter Susie Stanton, brother Tom and sister-in-law Sylvia Stanton.  At his request a private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.   The family wishes to send a special thank you to Careline Hospice who provided excellent care, compassion and support.  www.henryfuneralhome.org
