Earl D. Torrey, age 94, of Climax, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. He was born June 26, 1922 in Banfield, Michigan the son of George Edward and Gladys Mary (Allison) Torrey. Earl served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre receiving the Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge he married Dorothy I. (Thompson) on June 1, 1947 who survives. Also surviving are three children: Joe Torrey of Galesburg, Dennis (Carly) Torrey of Augusta and Leahanne (Joe) Grau of Saranac; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother: Eugene Torrey of Mattawan, two sisters: Dorothy (Bill) Baird of Lakeland, FL and Helen Groux of Battle Creek; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Renee Deeann Torrey; and seven brothers and sisters: George, Warren, James, Elwin, Jack, Genevieve and Mary. Earl retired from Bill Knapp’s as a truck driver and prior to that was a route driver for 7-Up. He loved to camp and build the campfire, helped all his neighbors and enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting events. For 30 years he and Dorothy wintered in Texas. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with interment to follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
