Duncan Mcholme

December 11, 1921 — November 25, 2017

Duncan Caird McHolme, age 95, of Battle Creek, passed away on November 25, 2017
at his residence. He was born on December 11, 1921 in Wilson, Pennsylvania, the son
of Duncan and Mary (Thompson) McHolme. He was raised by his uncle and aunt,
Robert and Mary Bier. Duncan was a graduate of San Jacinto High School in Houston,
Texas in 1939, then attended Texas University , then later transferred to Texas A&M.
In 1941, he became a member of the army specialized training program and was a
Corporal in the United States Army. He was sent to Officer Training Center, served in
training batterys at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, then was sent to Ft. Benning, Georgia for
Infantry training. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to the
86th Infantry Division. He saw overseas action in the Rhein Valley as a platoon leader.
He was shipped out for the invasion of Japan, but the war ended after three days at
sea. He then served eleven months in the Philippines as Division Labor Officer in
charge of rehab work with the local labor force of several hundred. He loved fishing,
hunting, wood carving, fly tying, poetry and his family foremost. Duncan was united
in marriage on August 14, 1946 to Suzanne Hart of Elizabeth Pennsylvania. He was
employed at Union Steam Pump Company in 1954. He served on the Goodwill
Industries Board of Directors and Junior Achievement, was past president of Host
Lions Club, a member at First Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon,
Ordained Elder, Trustee, and Steven Minister for many years. Surviving are his
daughter; Bonnie (Phil)Humeston, son; Robert (Carol) McHolme, grandchildren, Carrie
Storm, Scott Humeston, Michael (Tracy) Humeston, Lindsay McHolme, Rebecca (Jeff)
Smith; great grandchildren, Aidan Storm, Connor Storm, Marin Storm, Asher Smith,
Isla Smith, and Vada Smith. Friends may call from 2:00- 4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 p.m.
on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation
Services. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, December 2, 2017 at
the First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Dr. Jeff Carlson officiating. Private interment to
take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to
the First Presbyterian Church or The Haft. Condolences may be left for the family at
