Douglas “Doug” A. McNeil, age 60 of Battle Creek passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2015 after a nine year battle with Parkinson’s disease and other health problems. He was born March 2, 1954 in Battle Creek, Michigan the third child of Arthur McNeil and Helen McNeil-Larder. Doug graduated from Springfield High School in 1972 where he was a member of the high school band, playing the coronet; he was also on the wrestling and baseball teams. He loved riding his motorcycle and followed his father’s love of golf. When he finally beat his dad it was hard to tell which one of them was the proudest. Doug also liked to travel and crew for Hot Air Balloons. He was a loving son, brother and uncle as well as a loyal friend and was known to some as “The Mayor”. Douglas is survived by his mother Helen and step-father Don Larder; sister: Connie (Tom) Bracke; niece: Christy (Norm) Chapin; nephew: David (Shannon) Bracke; nieces: Kimberly Bracke, Abby (Lucas) Marshall and Clorissa McNeil; great-nieces: Aleigha Bracke, Caitlin and Kassidy Fletcher, Tori Chapin and Lori Roberts; great-nephews: Korbin Fletcher, Aidan Bracke, Dustin and Brady Chapin; his aunts: Lucille Phipps, Doris (James) Jackson of Cookville, TN, Chrystelle King of Warren, MI and Janett King of Mt. Juliet, TN; his uncle: Randall (Marie) King of Crestwood, IL and many cousins. Doug was preceded in death by his beloved father, Arthur McNeil in 1991 and his brother, Donald J. McNeil in 1986. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Marshall Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held in Reese Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Michael J.
