Dorothy Vandorsten

Dorothy M. VanDorsten, age 88, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014. She was born April 22, 1926 in Three Rivers, Michigan the daughter of Lewis and Esther (Teadt) Custer. On February 13, 1944 Dorothy was united in marriage to Richard A. VanDorsten who preceded her in death on October 28, 2013. She was also preceded in death by two sons: Ted and Richard VanDorsten and three brothers: Lawrence, Ervin and Jack Custer. Surviving are her sons: Roy (Pam) VanDorsten, David (Sandra) VanDorsten, Tom (Anelda) VanDorsten, Todd (Colleen) VanDorsten and Tim (Brenda) VanDorsten; two daughters-in-law: Brenda and Susan VanDorsten; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy enjoyed sewing and knitting, and owned/operated the Frontier Gun Ship along with her husband. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Townsend of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
