Dorothy May Johnson, age 94, of Battle Creek, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017. She was born September 23, 1922 in Riverdale, Michigan the daughter of Fred and Ilah (Rockafellow) Johnson. A 1940 graduate of Riverdale High School, Dorothy worked in Lansing for several years prior to moving to Battle Creek in 1944 to work at Leila Hospital. She retired in 1993 from Battle Creek Medical Associates after working there for 36 years. Dorothy was a charter member of the Calhoun County Medical Assistants Association and a member of Maple United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, watching and feeding the birds, photography and traveling. The highlight or her many trips abroad were visiting Australia and New Zealand. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and brother Harold Johnson. She is survived by her niece Renee (Jeffrey) Kemp of Raleigh, NC; nephew Jeffrey Johnson of Edwardsburg, MI; two great-nephews: Wesley and Vinnie Evans; sister-in-law Sarah Johnson of Edwardsburg, MI and several cousins. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held in Sumner Cemetery, Sumner, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be directed to Maple United Methodist Church. www.henryfuneralhome.org
