Dorothy J. Edgerton, Age 83, of Battle Creek, died Thursday, August 30, 2012, in Battle Creek. Dorothy was born on June 2, 1929, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Thomas and Ethel Roberts. She had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Lakeview Schools. On November 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Glenn M. Edgerton, Jr., who preceded her in death on July 24, 1995. Dorothy had worked at JC Penney in the men’s department for 5 years and then at Heritage Cleaners for 10 years. She also had worked as a bus aid for the Athens school district. She was a member of Faith Assembly of God and the Lioness Club in Athens. She enjoyed reading and being around her dogs and cats especially her Pekingese “India”. Surviving are her children, Marilyn K. Edgerton, Mark T. (Cheryl) Edgerton both of Battle Creek, Christine L. Edgerton of Las Cruces, NM, and Timothy J. Edgerton of Battle Creek; a grandchild, Michael D. Edgerton of Battle Creek; brother, Ralph Hood of Battle Creek; niece, Sandie Roberts; nephew, Terry (Renee) Hill and cousin, Wanda Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles E. and James M. Roberts; sisters, Minerva Brown and Gladys Hill and a niece, Nancy Provost. Visitation will be held 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Winford Collins officiating. Interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
