Dorothy Ecklund

Dorothy Carene Ecklund, age 89, of Battle Creek, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Brookdale Senior Living.  She was born on May, 30, 1927 in Normandy, Tennessee, the daughter of Euless and Cloie (Stone) Jones.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert B. Ecklund on December 9, 1944 at the chapel at Camp Forrest in Tullahoma, TN.  In the spring of 1946 she moved to Battle Creek following her husband’s military service.  Dorothy was employed as an operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company and as a switchboard operator and mail clerk for the Battle Creek Schools for twenty-seven years, retiring in May 1989.  She was an active member of the Battle Creek Evangelical Church, teaching in their Christian education department, Battle Creek Area Retired School Personnel, and loved sending out  greeting cards to friends and family.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; Robert Ecklund on October 12, 2001, and a daughter, Connie Baird in 1991, brothers; Shirley Jones, Kenneth Jones, and sister, Jamie Miller.    Surviving are her son; Les (Linda) Ecklund of Battle Creek, brother; Robert (Joann) Jones of Murfreesboro, TN., four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Visitation will be Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.  Funeral services scheduled 11:00 am, Friday, February 24, 2017 at the funeral home with Reverend Kelly Hadlich officiating, interment to follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Memorial Contributions may be made to Battle Creek Friends Evangelical Church.  www.henryfuneralhome.org
