Doris J. Salyers, age 81, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, December 7, 2012. She was born August 23, 1931 in Elkhart, Indiana, the daughter of Elmer and Beulah (Bardo) Weaver. As a young child she lived in Chicago, then moved to Marcellus, Michigan, where she graduated from Marcellus High School. After graduation Doris attended Elkhart Business College and later moved to Battle Creek, where she met George Thomas Salyers; they were married on June 1, 1952. Doris worked for many years as the office manager at the Te-Khi Truck Plaza. She was a 50-year plus member of Lakeview Baptist Church, having served on many boards and committees and singing in the choir. Doris was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Surviving are two children: Scott W. (Brigitte) Salyers, Colonel, U.S. Army, retired, currently residing and working in London, England, and Carolyn (Greg) Groen of Galien, MI; and three grandchildren: Breah Groen of Holland, MI, Monica Groen with the Peace Corp in Skoura, Morocco, and Frank Groen of Holland, MI. Doris was preceded in death by her husband on April 20, 1979, and her parents. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at Lakeview Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Metzger officiating and entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the church.
