Doris M. Nelson, 90, of Battle Creek passed away Wednesday October 9, 20123 at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehab Center. She was born on July 13, 1923 in Marshall to Ellsworth M. and Donna (Seeger) Jarvis.
Doris graduated from Lakeview High School in 1941and Argubright Business College. She was united in marriage to Dewey A. Nelson on August 30, 1941 in Battle Creek, he preceded her in death in 1990. Doris was employed by Roney and Company from 1973 to 1976. Prior to that she worked for Channing Corp. as a “wholesale trader” until they relocated in Texas.
Surviving are her daughters, Deanna (Gary) Hakes, of Battle Creek, and Dawn (Jon) Hamelink, of DeTour Village, MI; five grandchildren, Todd (Trisha) Kline, Mark Kline, Michelle (Michael) Korelich, Jeannie (Greg) Burchfield, and Tammy Hisler, a step grandson, Jeff (Susan) Hamelink, twelve great grandchildren, a sister, Mavis (Aubrey) Corum, of Battle Creek, sisters-in-law, Betty Jeffries, of Bloomingdale, MI and Linda Evans, of Zeeland, MI. She was also preceded in death by a son, David E. Nelson who died in Vietnam in 1969.
Doris was a member of Factoryville Bible Church. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, bowling, golfing, reading, and traveling.
Visitation will be held from 4pm to 8pm Friday October 11, 2013 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Committal Services will be held at 10 am Saturday October 12, 2013 at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. A Memorial Service will then be held 11:30am Saturday at Factoryville Bible Church. Memorial contributions may be given to Great Lakes Hospice.
