Doris Lee McDonald, age 90, of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Bickford of Battle Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care, where she had been a resident since January 2016. She was born March 16, 1928 in Dryad, Washington the daughter of John Newton and Anna E. (Lovins) Downs. She was a 1946 graduate of Marshall High School and worked as a secretary at Gage’s after high school. Doris married the love of her life, Robert B. McDonald on July 5, 1947. They were married 70 years and raised four children. Doris worked at Kellogg’s for 22 years, retiring in 1985 and then volunteered in the office at Fort Custer National Cemetery. She and her husband spent the month of March in Florida for many years and enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Alaska and on several cruises among other places. Doris enjoyed gardening, bowling, golfing and sewing. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Doris is survived by her daughters: Barbara Evans-Crisher and Sally (Ed) Brown both of Battle Creek; her son John (Deb) McDonald of Mesa, Arizona; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert on October 17, 2017, their youngest daughter Terry Link in December 2012, her parents and brother William Gnadt. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service time.
